Julian Fane
Much like Sigur R=s, Dntel, and M83, Vancouver, Canada's Julian Fane makes spacious, atmospheric music that blurs the boundaries between electronica and dream pop. The singer/multi-instrumentalist/programmer performed with the band Waikiki and made experimental electronic pieces under the monikers Aardvark Interface and Taoist Blockade, but had a full-time job as a day trader on NASDAQ, which he eventually quit to focus on his music. The falsettto may still provoke Thom Yorke comparisons but this is a more stripped back and rocking affair than the vancouver wunderkid's 04 debut. Giving out the goosebumps with stratospheric bombast and fat, crunchy Autechre death-piston beats is still what he does best here though. -Plan B
