Komeda are a Swedish quartet who give us quirky, danceable ditties with memorable melodies. Funky electronics, basslines, and mesmerizing rhythms roll along by playing off one another. There exists a '60s flair with added horns, analog synths, and acoustic guitars that pound out rhythms. Maybe, a Stereolab reference could by placed with the synth/drums set up. Finally Komeda's first album and following EP are more widely available. Originally issued on Swedish label North of No South, Pop Ps Svenska (1993) and Plan 714 Till (1995) have since been available only as rare imports or at Komeda's shows, until supply finally trickled down to nothing. A product of the same Swedish pop scene which spawned the equally effervescent Cardigans and Cloudberry Jam, The Genius of Komeda is another outstanding export, a bright and charmingly kitschy ode to space-age popcraft.
