Sure, other rap artists came before them, but Run-D.M.C. were rap's first superstars -- one of the first rap acts to not suffer from the "one-hit wonder syndrome." So it's finally come down to this, a Run D.M.C. tribute CD. Records like this usually fall under the cliched category of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Although "Givin' Up Props" could be a proper way of giving the love and respect for the "kings of rock," having the featured artists on here adding their own 90s twist on classics such as "My Adidas" and "Walk This Way" is almost insulting, if not egotistical. Completely unnecessary. ~ Mike DaRonco, All Music Guide
