Wye Oak believes if a song is good enough, it will stand on its own regardless of how much noise you put on top of it. Lush guitars, flawless harmonies, and evocative lyrics are amplified by the layers of noise proving the truth of this philosophy. If Children has hints of shoegaze and glimmers of folk, but its resounding characteristic is a refreshingly unique sound from this young band who, will continue to grow and change while extolling their Maryland roots.

A set of songs that sway, stretch, and scream while always reaching outward for personal connection. As ever, Andy Stack's production layers his own multi-instrumental arrangements over Jenn Wasner's woozy compositions, but musically, too, things sound more precise. There's less squalling feedback than before, but lingering violin and pedal steel bring out the droning Americana that has always informed Wye Oak's sound.
