On its sophomore effort, Dumptruck used a real producer (the estimable Don Dixon) and almost lost its soul in the process -- Dixon does a good job of brightening up the colors in the band's sound and coaxes hooks seemingly out of thin air, but there are moments when it seems as if he and the band are infatuated with studio effects; the echo level on "Secrets" is tasteless, and the drums are seriously overprocessed on "Autumn," for example.
