After playing around Brooklyn for a while, singer/songwriter Chris Garneau was signed to Absolutely Kosher in the spring of 2006, after a recommendation from Jamie Stewart, whose band, Xiu Xiu, was on the label. A piano player since age five, Garneau released his debut, Music for Tourists, a slow, sad collection of sparsely arranged songs that set off the singer's falsetto and was produced by Duncan Sheik.

The debut by this Pennsylvania band is a pop dreamscape that deftly combines indie and dance rock, alternately ironic and deeply emotional. Citing influences from Elvis Costello to The Liars, and inspiration from art to social networking sites, this record illustrates both the outlandish collection of pop culture that moves the band, and an unusual ability to craft a remarkably accomplished record. Recommended if you like: Franz Ferdinand, The Liars, Arctic Monkeys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Brand New.
