Kid A (CD)
"Instead of simply adding club beats or sonic collage techniques, Radiohead strives to incorporate the unsettling 'intelligent techno' sound of Autechre and Aphex Twin, characterized by its skittering beats and stylishly dark sonic surfaces, for Kid A. To their immense credit, Radiohead don't sound like carpetbaggers, because they share the same post-post-modern vantage point as their inspirations. As a result, Kid A is easily the most successful electronica album from a rock band -- it doesn't even sound like a rock band, even if it does sound like Radiohead." -- Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

| At first I hated this album. I thought, where did Radiohead go wrong, where's even one guitar let alone 3? and then with time, I have come to realize this is the greatest album. ever. Every time I listen to it now, I think to myself, this is a perfect albumn. Nothing comes away as wow this is the best track on the album, but rather this track just builds on the beauty. Wow. If you don't like it, shelve it and come back.. you will be convinced | |

| Hmmm. Well, after reading many reviews and listening to the album many times, I have to say that Kid A is a good album, to summarize. I used to sit and drool over Ok Computer and Radiohead. I couldn't wait to posses the new album. I figured, like most everyone else, RH's fourth album would be the greatest album of all time. Many say it isn't. I don't think it is. I am glad RH got rid of the stupid distortion guitar almost entirely. Listening to OKC, I always thought it would have been a better album if they didn't have the stupid rock n roll guitars. I just thought rock and distortion wasn't any good in music anymore. I still don't think it is. Anyway, Kid A is good, and I see it as a stepping stone to the greatest album of all time. With Kid A, RH is experimenting with a new sound. Testing the waters, if you will. OkC was one of the greatest albums of all time. As was the Bends. They've rid themselves of Rock. So, in the next few albums, I have great faith that RH will create the greatest album of all time. Don't worry if Kid A is any good, it doesn't matter. The next albums will be great due to Kid A and OkC.
Thanks.

| This cd is not going to be a rehash of your typical radiohead (as if there is a typical sound), but a maturing of musicianship. Some people such as our brilliant scholar, Micah Gunnell, don't have the attention span that is neccessary to digest an albulm like KID A. If you are a *Ritalin addict and can only comprehend music as dancable or not then don't waste what brain cells you have. You will never know what KID A is about until you listen yourself. And listen again and again... | |

| this album is a total scam. i guess radiohead just figured they could follow up their last album with just about anything, and it would sell. i had SUCH high hopes too after their brilliant "OK computer". i know, some people say this album is good, its just experimental, but listen carefully: they are smoking crack! i can only assume that these people want to look intelligent by seemingly knowing something about the music that the rest of us dont! sorry, but there's nothing here but noise. almost every song is comprised of a boring, drawn out intro with repetitive noises and or unimaginative drum machine beats. i'll admit, there are 2 or 3 decent songs, i especially like "how to disappear completely", but all in all, this is a very poor attempt at music. i read someone's comments who said it was "good for an album but not for radiohead". do not believe him! yes, its more disappointing coming from a talented band, but crap is crap, it doesnt matter whose ass its coming from! and it doesnt get much worse than "KID A". i wouldnt listen to it again on purpose. its terrible. | |

| Dangerously slipped pill into mouth and waited. How many thoughts make up the image? I have an anchor in my head and I am not going anywhere for a while. I went to the mall. Passed the security guards and the camera. Looked, then, unlooked. Small compared to the one in my house. Kept going through the tunnel of fire. I liked how I looked in the elevator, and I liked how I looked next to the mannequin. I don't know anyone that owns a compass. I decided to unlook again. What is that beeping sound? We are a generation of the hypereducated, we can freely quote Goethe. Everyone I know has been in a car accident. Have you smiled at a person's misfortune? I have laughed largessely before, and that is what I am doing now. Sylvia Plath tried to cook her head--how's that for saying Fuck OFF to the world! | |

| i really wish we could give this album 2 ratings. as a 'radiohead' album, i would give it only *1* star, but as an album on it's own, i'd give it 4+. upon first listen, i was disappointed - where's the ROCK?? but then i realized, that's what radiohead is about - not doing what everyone wants them to. i really hope their guitarist is playing keyboards on the album, because there sure ain't no guitars! (except for 2 songs), and their drummer seems to have mastered the art of drum machine programming. all kidding aside, this album will get little to no support by mtv or major radio stations, yet i'm sure it will go platinum several times over! and just wait until my new album comes out - yowser!!! | |

| A haunting, melancholy piece of art. You don't listen to this record so much as get engulfed by it. Even more intricate melodies and more extensive instrumentation than they have ever used before. Unfortunately, this album will go over a lot of people's heads. A challenging listen, but well worth it. | |

| This album depends on personal taste. Some may love it, others may hate it. Here's my view:
Kid A is truly Radiohead's masterpiece. Steve up there from the AMG might have credibility due to his company, but I think he's overestimating and placing too much pressure on the band. Radiohead wrote nearly 40 songs for this record, that's why it took three years to put out. A vision was needed, and a vision is a hard thing to craft and not screw-up. This album doesn't want you to listen to it; instead, it literally demands your attention, from the first bars of "Everything In Its Right Place" to the final silence of "Motion Picture Soundtrack." The lack of anthemic songs or real rockers helps this album along mightily, as it doesn't sound overwhelming and rely on noise, as their previous albums did, but has been layered and structured, combining in some moments space and silence with the very essences of melodies and structures to create an other-worldly feel, in others playing with the root of sound that one is capable of getting from an instrument or a voicebox. Perhaps the best aspect of this album is its limitless examinability. Days, weeks, and months could be spent dissecting this album under a microscope, and still you'll still come back to where you were and the thoughts and ideas you had the first time you heard it. Radiohead's music is too far out for anyone to understand, maybe even past the band members. With Kid A, the band destroys any notions the listener may have had about songs, albums, and music in general. Rest assured you will not hear anything in quite the same way after experiencing this record. Just pop it on and enjoy the ride. | |

| If God were a robot, Kid A would be his voice. It's the soundtrack to the sort of outspace "landscape" one can only imagine. | |
