Your Blues (CD)
Daniel Bejar (aka Destroyer) continues to surprise and delight. Without a doubt one of the most dynamic and enigmatic songwriters of his generation, Bejar -- one of the founding members and principle songwriters for Vancouver's rock super group, the New Pornographers -- turns out another stellar performance vastly different from his previous work. Bombastic and bold at times, quiet and soothing at others, "Your Blues" has an almost theatrical quality that informs the compositions. Another stunning achievement for Bejar, "Your Blues" is sure to be considered one of the best of 2004.

| A VERY confusing and ambitious album. It takes a ton of listens to understand it, but once you get it, the answer is quiet simple: these are perfect pop songs taken out of context (way out of context). Dan Bejar continues to amaze us, he stripped Destroyer to it's bare minimum (acoustic guitar and synths) and achieved a sound that's unique. Not the ideal album to meet Destroyer; a masterpiece that needs patience and an open mind. | |
