Good News For People Who Love Bad News (CD)
At last! Modest Mouse's anxiously awaited follow-up to 2001's "The Moon and Antarctica." The 16-track 'Good News' was produced by Dennis Herring (Camper Van Beethoven, Throwing Muses) and is led by the rollicking, ultra-catchy single "Float On." The album features the debut of new drummer Benjamin Weikel, as well as the return of original guitarist Dan Gallucci, who returned after his other band, The Murder City Devils, broke up. The Dirty Dozen Brass Band (!) guests on "The Devil's Workday," while Dave Fridmann and the Flaming Lips remixed the album track "The Good Times Are Killing Me." Released April 2004.

| After hearing the single "Float On" on the radio a few hundred times, I decided to give this band a shot and bought this CD. After a few listens, I was mildly impressed. However, after about 10 listens, I realized I'd just stumbled upon one of the best CDs of the year. I've listened to the tracks on this album no fewer than 50 times since I bought and with every listen, I notice something new that's completely rad. Whether it be the killer rhythm these guys lay down, or lead singer Isaac Brook's all over the map vocals, or the mind bending lyrics, this CD just does it all.
I also thoroughly enjoy just how dynamic this CD is. Some tracks remind me of Elliot Smith ('Blame it on the Tetons'), while other tracks remind me of Presidents of the United States of America (with the heavily layed on bass and quirky but thought provoking lyrics).
You won't be dissapointed with this CD! | |
