Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone (LP)
VINYL FORMAT. The Unicorns' first release on Alien8 Recordings features 13 tracks deeply rooted in careful songwriting and lo-fi pop experimentalism. The Unicorns have a gift for blending a morbid sense of humor with irresistible pop melodies caked with beautiful vocals employing thoughtful, near-sacred lyrics. Having blossomed in Montreal, Quebec, The Unicorns have packed their things and are going out into the world to back up their reputation as Canada's most promising new band -- and planet Earth's next big thing.

| It seems that the great music gods sat down together in a meeting that would have produced the most appealing, ear-pleasing sonic experience capable of human comprehension, only to have it interrupted by a band called the Unicorns kicking in the door, slobbering drunk with the stink of human flesh on their breath. At least that's how I'm assuming these crazed Canadians landed a record deal. With a unique combination of psychedelia and jumbled fuzz-pop, this defunct band has shown how true masters create albums worth listening to...over and over. ''Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone'' is a near-narrative filled with fantastical boneless beings, embittered ghosts, and mystical tales of singular-horned horses accompanied by grooving guitar melodies which disappear just as quickly as they explode onward to the next schizophrenic hook. The Unicorns have concocted pop music that fully appreciates the banality of life, all while holding onto that last stale breath before...death. | |
