Sax Education (2xCD)
EXCLUSIVE TO INSOUND! NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE UNTIL APRIL 9TH!
James Chance is among the many never-appreciated geniuses of contemporary music. His brief period of musical output, from 1978 to 1983, is some of the best that the New York NO WAVE scene had to offer. He had energy, vision, style, and most importantly, class. Imagine JAMES BROWN using IGGY POP as a megaphone with ORNETTE COLEMAN as a backing band ? and that's only a starting point in trying to describe Chance's sound. It's dense and powerful and extreme enough to make all the punk rock-listening jocks run away with their tails between their legs. "Sax Education" is a collection of some of James Chance's best-known work. Disc 1 includes tracks from all of his previously released full-lengths; disc 2 features a never-before-released live set of James and his band from Bedroom Athlete Radio Holland in 1981. Take it from us: this album is the quintessential new-wave, dance party album, filled with disco beats, punk rock howls, free jazz noise, and CBGB's-era raw power. With the popularity of bands like the Rapture, Liars and other NYC hipsters, James Chance is more relevant today than ever before.
