#29 Seller of 2005! Sam Beam's third record is striking both for its broadened instrumental palette (percussion, piano, violin, electric guitar) and its thematic focus on female characters both archetypal and personal. He frames his melancholy in concrete imagery and solid, inviting melodies. Self-assured, spellbinding, and richly, refreshingly adult. Six new songs recorded with Brian Deck in Chicago.

User Reviews

Jason Stewart - Norman, OK, USA
Sam Beam effortlessly pushes his seemingly simple, always ample folk-pop music into fuller soundscapes without sacrificing any of the low-key charm or seductive splendor of the plucked guitar and whispered wonder of previous albums. There's a rustic blues vibe to this recording, an earthy atmosphere that smells of soil and sweat, of blood and tears; and at a mere six tracks, it has about twice as much to offer as most full-length albums of 2005.
