Justamustache (CD)
Bursting out of Detroit's pollution-and-crime-ridden streets like Robocop after one too many Yellow Jackets, Thunderbirds are Now! deliver catchy, smart, melodic, fast, direct and danceable rock with a nod to late '70s and early '80s post-punk. Keyboards are used not as a novelty, but as a necessity, functioning as an instrument that provides everything from atmosphere to a song's main melody. Guitars are wiry and manic -- but still direct -- and not afraid of the occasional delayed part or barre chord. The bass rides an undercurrent, but also jumps out of the foray, delivering alternate melodies and power. Drums are never overcomplicated or flashy, but are instead used to generate a rhythmic pulse that carries throughout the song. Vocals dart in and out of the mix, sung with a sassy intensity. In other words, they rule.

| I'm not sure how anyone could honestly not enjoy this album. Thunderbirds Are Now! haven't re-invented the wheel, but they've made the wheel rock harder (if that makes sense). The synth-heavy sound with the falsetto singing blows away any and all of the so called "new-wave revival" bands today. | |

| Now is correct. Yes, they are not too far removed from other bands that are re-working late 70's and early 80's new wave/post punk and enjoying the spoils of big attention and/or commercial success.
Why is this record worth your time when others of similair persuasions are not?
Thunderbirds bring a level of excitement not seen by any other band capable of this level of songwriting. Simply stated, this record will have you trading in your franz ferdinand import vinyl to buy copies for your friends.

| im surprised the main review of this states that keyboards are an important part of this music. the keyboards sound like an after thought, and over all the band sounds like they are trying abit to hard to impress les savy fav (who owns the label they are now on)
some good tracks for sure, but nothing note worthy. anyone who says otherwise is sucked into the hype machine a little too deep.
