May 23rd 2007 (CD)
May 23rd 2007 is one of those exceptional records truly deserving of the term "genre-defying." The Kallikak Family utilize sound collage from collected field recordings, layers of nonverbal vocals, bursts of stuttering, breakbeat-syle drums, processed, keyboard instruments, computer-generated drone, and minimalist-inspired acoustic guitar throughout the album. Most pieces combine several of these elements to create new sonic textures. Their work has been compared to The Microphones/Mt. Eerie, The Books, and Susumu Yokota.
