While You Wait for the Others (feat. Michael McDonald) (7")
VINYL FORMAT. In May of 2009, Grizzly Bear released their hugely anticipated third full length album Veckatimest to extraordinary praise from a wide variety of sources. Press as far ranging as small Brooklyn blogs to the biggest names in international music journalism all agreed this record was not only the band's finest, but a top contender for album of the year. "While You Wait for the Others," the second single from Veckatimest, features singer / guitarist Daniel Rossen, described by The New Yorker as having a "glassy tenor that begins as a quiver and grows bright and loud as it rises," as well as deceptively simple drumming from Chris Bear, which quickly becomes a syncopated mix of snare drum rolls and swirling crashes. The group's famous four part harmonies are showcased to perfection, as beautifully as any Beach Boys or Phil Spector recordings, which they've been compared to many times, yet with a decidedly modern twist. The single's b-side features a version of the song sung by none other than the legendary vocalist Michael McDonald, who attended one of the sold out New York City performances earlier this year and was so blown away by the songwriting, four part singing and extremely high level the group performs at, that he ended up in the studio with them the next day.
