2001, BiFocal Media
Back in the proverbial day, there was a hardcore sound that got lost somewhere. Its signature was bands like Hal al Shedad, Clikitat Ikatowi, Universal Order of Armageddon and the like. Somewhere it was abandoned in favor of metal riffs and generic song structures. Not to place too heavy a burden on Secret Life Of Machines, but they seem to be heading forward back to that place we all miss so much. Blending sonic walls of keyboards and distorted guitar repetition with basslines that groove like no other, SLOM are what we are missing these days. Crash Smash Explode take it back to the roots of Gravity records with a side of this split worthy of Clikitat Ikatowi mentions with vocals that manage to stay one step ahead of the bassline that is threatening to push the vocals into the drink. Both bands have appeared on the Bifocal video Whistle of the Missile and the Kampai CD. The LP comes in purple marble vinyl
