Birthmark - Antibodies
So, everyone's heard of the brothers Tim and Mike Kinsella, right? Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, American Football, and Owen are all bands that have made the Kinsella name pretty well known. But does anyone know that their cousin Nate makes music too? He’s played in both Joan of Arc and Make Believe and has been making music under the name of Birthmark for several years now. The Layer, released in 2007, was Birthmark's first release and features Nate playing every instrument on the album. Birthmark is quite a departure from the previous acts he's played in. The Layer’s sound is unlike any album released under the Kinsella name. A few years later came the release of his second album, Shaking Hands, which was definitely one of my top albums of 2010.
Antibodies is the third full-length album from Birthmark. The week before it's official release, Antibodies was performed in its entirety to a packed little venue in the East Village. Nate Kinsella performed with a full 8-piece band, which included his wife and the Mivos string quartet. The whole set was moving, every instrument working together in harmony to recreate the sound of an amazing, stunningly composed album. I was almost brought to tears it was that good! Nate’s an incredibly talented musician and he's a Kinsella, so they can never do any wrong music-wise! Trust me on this.
