Shannon and The Clams - Dreams in the Rat House
Dreams in the Rat House is the third full-length from Shannon and The Clams, and their best release yet, at least in my book. While the band tends to get lumped in with that whole garage revival thing that's been going on for a while, I'd say their sound is much more of a throwback than what their peers are bringing to the table -- think more of a doo-wop vibe with killer female (and male!) vocals. Clocking in at a little over 40 minutes, Dreams in the Rat House is the band's lengthiest offering to date, but the total lack of filler makes the album breeze by. Fans of the band's previous output will find solace in the consistency here: the fidelity hasn't changed, the vocals still deliver, the hooks are still plentiful. I'd list my favorite tracks, but they're kind of ALL my favorite track, you know? If you're looking for a new "constant repeat" album, this is it!
