Between the hundreds of music submissions we get per week and the new bands and labels we're always reaching out to, we stumble upon some really great stuff. Each week, we will be picking one lesser-known band that we particularly love. This week, Andy French gets all sweaty with The Men.
The Men churn out a frayed torrent of hung-over post-punk and hardcore fallout. Most of the four tracks on their self-released 12" spend their time careening somewhere between reckless and breakneck and the adrenaline rush that results is more than welcomed.
Fidelity's not a question here, not an aesthetic choice and might not have been even a consideration when the tape was laid down, but that's what makes their EP so visceral. The sweat and exhaustion are encapsulated forever in time right where they fell. The band isnt going for image, just banging out frustration one strangled chord at a time.
