Afternoon Naps - Parade

Afternoon Naps - Parade

There probably isn't a more perfect name than Afternoon Naps, for an indiepop group at least. These fellas and lass from the mighty Cleveland, Ohio haven't let me down yet, and after the wonderful Sunbeamed (which we still have in stock) and Snowday EP helped me stuff my last couple mixtapes comes this year's Parade on the venerable (to me anyway) Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records (home to Boyracer, Casper and The Cookies, etc etc). I say it's the perfect name not because they make me sleepy - quite the opposite - it just suits a band that's always comforting, warm, energizing and sorely needed. They play lush sixties styled pop (think Belle and Sebastian, The Ladybug Transistor, The Left Banke, etc), with lots of jangle, organ, ba-ba-ba's and boy-girl harmonies. "Beach Bums" and "The Fall Companion" are slotted for tapes already, and there are plenty more ripe for the picking. They've even added a bit of Orange Juice disco-bounce, which was at first unexpected but now totally welcomed. I bought a shirt from them when they played at this year's NYC Popfest at the Cake Shop and they were the nicest people ever, which makes me love the band even more. Absolutely one of my favorite pop bands from the last few years (check out Bears from Cleveland too), and a perfect album for these gloomy months and thinking about the weather (whatever it may be), or to throw on in the late afternoon when you feel your body lagging. Man, I could really use an afternoon nap right now, and it's not even noon yet…
